Changing the narrative. One voice, one community at a time.
The Gamp Haven Fellowship
The Issue
Domestic violence thrives in silence, and silence thrives in culture. In Nigeria, harmful cultural norms and generational beliefs continue to normalize and excuse violence against women and children:
- A 2022 Afrobarometer survey found that 35% of Nigerian women agreed that a husband is sometimes justified in beating his wife, while 11% believed it was always justified.
- Emotional, psychological, and financial abuse are largely unrecognized or minimized, leaving many victims without language or support.
- Stigma and victim-blaming prevent survivors from speaking out. In many cases, they are silenced by their communities, families, or even religious institutions.
- Children raised in violent homes are 6x more likely to repeat the cycle, either as victims or aggressors (UNICEF Nigeria).
Our Approach
The Gamp Haven Fellowship is a bold civic leadership and advocacy program for women ready to confront injustice and shape the future. It has been designed to bring together those with burning conviction, united by one purpose: to turn pain into policy and voice into power.
This Fellowship will train a new generation of changemakers, equipping women with the tools to speak publicly, engage legislators, influence policy, mobilize communities, and hold systems accountable. Because at The Gamp Haven Foundation, we believe women should be equipped to change the narrative through policy.
